Who You Are in Christ – You Are Dead

I’ve got some great news for you. You’re dead. Yeah, that right you’re dead and it’s a good thing.

If you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, then you’re dead. The Apostle Paul said it the best when he declared:

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20)

When Jesus died on the cross, He literally took your place. He died for you. Paul says you HAVE BEEN crucified with Christ. He’s not talking about your body for that is very much alive or you wouldn't be viewing this video.

What died on the cross is your old sinful nature. The bible calls it your old man or old self.

The construction of the Greek word is in the perfect tense and means “I have been and am now crucified with Christ.” The effect of Christ’s crucifixion was not just while He hung on the cross, it is effective and active in you today.

Your old man is dead. It died with Jesus on the cross and it’s still dead today.

Understanding this one truth could change your life forever. If you’re constantly struggling with sin in your in your life you’re not understanding that your old self is dead. Paul also says:

knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; (Romans 6:6)

Struggling with sin in your own strength is a guarantee of failure. To try and fight against the old man is a losing battle because the old man is dead. It’s like fighting with a skeleton. It’ll never bring the change your desire.

Paul says that it is no longer he that lives, but Christ lives in Him. His answer to dealing with life’s issues was to do it in the power of God through Jesus Christ. The power of overcoming sin is available to us in the power of the Holy Spirit.

You were never designed to live the Christian life in your own ability. God has made His divine power available to you so that you have everything you need to live life the way God intends it to be.

3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. (2 Peter 1:3-4)

It’s God divine power that has granted you everything you need. You don’t have to strive in your own strength. You can access all the precious promises that God’s given to you and partake of His power in your life.

Paul says that the life he now lives he lives by faith in Jesus. Faith is what apprehends the power of God and allows you to walk in newness of life. God is at work for you and in you. All that He has made available is freely accessible to you through faith.

Paul wants you to know that you need to purposely acknowledge that you are dead to sin and alive to God. He says:

 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11)

Go ahead and repeat after me. I was crucified with Christ. My old self is dead. It died when Jesus died. It’s still dead today. I choose to believe what God has said. I choose to proclaim today that I reckon myself dead. I will no longer fight with the old man. My body of sin has been done away with. It no longer has power to work in my life. I choose to proclaim that I’m alive in God and His divine power is available to me. His power is working for me and through me. I can experience every promise God through a simple faith in the word of God. Every magnificent promise is mine in Christ. Thank You, Father, that I am a partaker of Your divine nature.
